Value of marriage in Hindu Dharmashastra and Manusmriti.

The classical concept related to marriage is available in Manusmriti. According to this concept marriage are of 8 types. These types of marriage were in vogue in then society. Or these marriages are not classical and religiously accepted marriage. The marriage system mentioned in Manusmriti and among the  types of marriages four types of marriages are said to be the accepted marriage and other are unacceptable marriage but are said to be the marriage in marriage once. There are eight types of marriage which are said to low graded and high graded marriage. In Hindu Dharmashastra , there has been mentioned the qualified and disqualified bride for the marriage.

  • Bramha Bibah : The Bramha marriage is said to be the marriage with the religious ritual /custom calling himself the virtuous bridegroom having read the Vedas keeping him together with the bride wearing him the jewelry and dress worshipping him where the lady is donated.

  • Daiba Bibah : Performing the fire sacrifice ritually the task of handing over the lady by symbolizing the Brahman is called the Daibya Marriage.

  • Arshya Marriage : Taking two couple of cows  and oxen  from the bride-groom (not in lieu of benefit ) the task of donating the lady is called the Arshya marriage. Thus as taking the cow and ox from the bride groom the lady is donated ,  so, this type of ,marriage is said to the inferior marriage than the Bramha and Daiba Bibhah. In this type of  marriage there shall not be the object of virtue, desire, wealth and salvation.

  • Gandharva Bibaha –both of the marriageable boy and girl upon liking to each other without the consent of their parents if gets married is called the Gandharba Bibaha. In this type of marriage system there will not take place . By the Gandharva for the first time practiced this sort of marriage system . Gandharva is a name used for distinct heavenly beings in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. It is also a term for skilled singers in Indian classical music. In this type of marriage no procedure of donating the bride is accomplished. Its main object is to fulfill the lustrous desire.

  • Prajapatya Marriage : In this marriage upon keeping the bride and bride groom together giving the dresses to perform the virtuous conduct worshiping if the girl (bride) is donated it is called the Prajapatya marriage.

  • Asur Bibaha : To accept giving as per capacity wealth to  the father of the girl voluntarily in his own will is called the Ashur Bibaha.

  • Rakchhes Bibaha : Beating grievously assaulting , raping ,hurting the father side of the girl where the girl is abducted and causing the girl cry such marriage is called the Rakchhes marriage.

  • Paichas Bibaha : The lady in the  condition being slept  of  or the unconscious lady with   using  the alcohol not providing  the  opportunity of defending her chastity or character keeping the sexual relation if the marriage is done in such a unfavorable condition is called the Paichas Bibaha. Among these marriages , Brahma, Daiba, Arshya and Prajapatya marriage are said to be the sublime and noble marriage under the Hindu Religion. Apart from these marriages , other marriages are not regarded as mentioned above. According to the Dharmasutra , the marriage done forcefully upon abducting the lady by any person and if the marriage is not solemnized with the religious incantation and ritual the lady can leave the person and get another marriage . Thus under the sacred text of the Hinduism none should get marry forcefully .  The deed of marriage should take place on the mutual consent.
