Love provides us with a deep sense of satisfaction and joy.People in love are generally happy and tend to have a positive outlook on life.Sound equation with a compatible partner is one of the best things in life. However, maintaining a good healthy relationship needs a little bit of effort.
Everyone is different and unique in their own ways. When two people fall in love and start a relationship, they enter the honeymoon phase.Everything is nice and dandy during this phase. But after a while things get stagnant and issues start to boil. If both the parties are not careful about handling the said issues properly, things might get ugly. Here are a few tips on how to maintain harmony in a relationship:-
1. Respect your partner
Having respect for each other is crucial to any relationship. Every long term couple respects one another. This allows them
to communicate freely and openly. Being a couple doesn’t necessarily mean that both of you will have the same interests and hobbies. It’s okay to do your own thing at times. Independence matters to everyone.
2. Support each other
We all have ups and downs in life. Key to a healthy relationship lies in being there for each other during the best and
worst of times. Try to be the first person to jump and dance during your partner’s victories and lend a helping hand during crisis.
3. Have effective communication
Words are a means to understanding each
other. Don’t ever hesitate to speak about what’s on your mind. If something’s bothering you, make a habit of telling your significant other. Likewise, if something’s made you royally happy, tell them. Honest and effective dialogues make a relationship healthy and happy. So Communicate! Communicate! Communicate!
4. And Listen too!
Communication is a two way process. Just talking and talking won’t do anybody any good. You got to listen too. Calmly
listening to your partners sometimes requires patience. And there are times when we just zone out. Practice mindfulness. It’ll make you more alert and present during conversations.
5. Trust your spouse
Let’s face it, we all have felt a pang of jealousy and suspicion regarding our partners at some point. But it’s very
important to not let that affect your relationship in a negative way. We should always have confidence in our partner. When that confidence shakes, talk it out.
6. Share responsibility
Dating scene and marriage are completely different. Once you are married, your responsibility increases. Try to share
and take equal responsibilities regarding financial, domestic or any matter. Don’t let one of you take all the load of your relationship. Remember, it takes two to tango!
7. Make time for one another
Time management is vital to any relationship. As we get older, we get busy with all the grown up activities and
forget to make time for each other. We get so caught up in the trivialities of
life that we forget to have fun. Plan date nights with your partner or just go
dancing. Make a list of things you like doing and go for them.
8. Show appreciation
Maya Angelou says, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” Always appreciate
your partner’s efforts. Thank them or let them know how much their efforts mean to you.
9. Handle disputes wisely
Disagreements are a part of life. Two people living under a same roof sometimes causes conflicts. It’s really important to
not lose your cool at these times. Try to keep your temper in check and not scream and shout. Rather discuss patiently and use nice words!
